Barry Payne completed his undergraduate training at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2001.
He then completed his internship at the Pretoria Academic Hospital in 2002 and his community service at Tintswalo Hospital in 2003. Following his community service he worked in various departments in the United Kingdom. In 2005 he returned to the University of Witwatersrand and became a registrar in the ophthalmology Department in 2006. He completed his ophthalmic training in 2010.
Barry started in private practice in 2011 and currently has consulting rooms based at the Oxford Eye Centre and is surgically based at the Sandhurst Eye Centre. He has a general ophthalmic practice with a particular interest in cataract and refractive surgery.
Away from Ophthalmology Barry is a keen participant in canoeing, mountain-biking, running and golf, and also has a love for the outdoors and travel.
