Dr Stewart is a general ophthalmologist with a retinal interest, both medical and surgical. He graduated at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1987 and did his internship at the Johannesburg General Hospital in 1988.
He then was an Ophthalmic Medical Officer at One Military Hospital Pretoria from 1989 to 1990 before doing his specialist training at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town from 1990 to 1994. From 1995 to 1998 he was employed by Anglo America as an Ophthalmologist at Ernst Oppenheimer Hospital. He has been in full time private practice in Johannesburg since 1999 and was the Ophthalmic Consultant for AngloGold Health Services from 1997-2007.
